The Mortal Sin

No treatise on unforgivable sins or theology...

I have recently completely immersed myself into beer geekery and completed my first beer trade. The object of my lust was a beer brewed and sold in Quebec and not available in this fine province (or any other besides Quebec for that matter). It is Dieu de Ciel`s Peche Mortel (Mortal Sin).

The description of this beauty is: The Péché Mortel is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair-trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, helping to intensify the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste.

It currently ranks online as the number 1 beer in Canada and 13th in the world. Serious business.

Along with it, I got a number of fine brews not available here in BC in trade for some fine BC brews.

Awesome.

Interesting past time... I had no idea we were so limited in our beer selection here in BC :)

I also realize that I am snooping on your blog in hopes to see pictures of your beautiful daughter. Maybe we could just get together soon so I can meet her? My family and I are all sick at the moment but let me know when you are free. Hope fatherhood is treating you well :)

B.C. beer is but a drop in the ocean.

We should indeed get together, when you're better.

i love that you love beer :) so in beer collecting...do you drink said beer and just keep the bottle or do you keep said beer in some untouchable cabinet and dream of what it tastes like? just curious...

Definitely drink it! I don't even keep the bottle... though maybe the cap! Is that too dorky? Then I write some tasting notes to remember it by, rank it, and dream of another...

No official beer journal, just some online notes. You can actually check out what I've recently had on the side link, Beers I've Rated.

Dieu du Ciel is actually available in B.C. However, I think the only place you can find it is Brewery Creek (http://brewerycreekliquorstore.com/) in Vancouver. They carry six of their styles: Corne du Diable, Derniere Velonte, Fumisterie, Peche Mortel, Rosee d'Hibiscus, and Route des Epices.

Thanks for the comment. I haven't been to Brewery Creek yet (though I did get my sister to cart a few goodies over from there on her last visit!) Also, in Victoria - Hillside Liquor has announced that they will start carrying DDC's line-up. They figure it should be in by June.
